«كنت أسكن في القرية» — ولم أعد أسكن فيها. للحديث عن عادة أو حالة في الماضي انتهت الآن نستخدم used to: I used to live in a village.

١القاعدة
التكوين: used to + الفعل الأصلي — نفس الشكل مع كل الفواعل.

لاحظ: مع did نكتب use بدون d: didn't use to / Did you use to.
متى نستخدمه؟ لشيء كان يحدث كثيرًا أو كان صحيحًا في الماضي، وليس صحيحًا الآن:
- She used to have long hair. (شعرها قصير الآن)
- There used to be a cinema here. (لم تعد موجودة)
- We used to visit my grandfather every Friday.
لا تخلط: I used to work (ماضٍ، انتهى) — I usually work (الآن، عادةً).
