can للقدرة الآن (I can speak English)، وcould للقدرة في الماضي (I could swim when I was five). وكلاهما للطلب المهذب: Could you help me?

١القاعدة
can / could + الفعل الأصلي — نفس الشكل مع كل الفواعل. لا نضيف s ولا to.
